THE STORY OF THE KLARSFELDS, BY MEANS OF INTERVIEWS MOSTY FILMED lN 2002, AND CONSIDERABLE ARCHIVAL MATERIAL, RETRACES THE SAGA OF A FAMILY THAT, BY FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE AND REMEMBRANCE, CHANGED THE COURSE OF HISTORY.

Beate, the only daughter of a Protestant couple, was born in Berlin in 1939. Her father was serving in the Wehrmacht, and her mother did housework.

ln 1960, Beate, a budding secretary, left for Paris to be an "au pair" girl, against her family's wishes.

On the platform of a subway station she met Serge Klarsfeld, a gifted political-science post-graduate, a romantic loner.

He had lost his Romanian Jewish father, who he saw being arrested by the Gestapo when he was 8...
